ARTIST – INTERVIEW
We did ask International Award Winner Aboriginal Artist Janet Milera for a short interview, here what she says:
***** “Growing up as a child my father would always took my siblings and myself out on the land to teach us how to hunt for food, where to look for food, and to look after the land because that’s where our ancestors had lived. My inspiration for the artwork I create has been influenced by my family as well as the knowledge and insight that my father taught me as a child, it has also influenced my connection to the land and his dreamtime stories.” *****
Janet, what do you like to tell us to your artworks?
***** “My deep passion are dot paintings, acrylic is my preferred medium. I love painting a wide variety of Aboriginal animals and I’m very proud of “Emu Dreaming” which was entered by my agent in an animal focused international online exhibition in America and brought my my first international success in the Award for Exceptional Art. You can read more about this painting on the gallery website –> Awards At ASSP Gallery Port Adelaide –> Blood, Sweat, and Tears. I create artworks which conveys great affection for my connection with my ancestors, the land, the animals and the spirituality.” *****
Janet, after your International Award do you intend to sell your artworks internationally? Do you intend to sell your awarded artwork “Emu Dreaming” or are there other plans for it?
***** “Even before the International Award my agent was in contact to international art galleries, museums, investors and collectors. A week ago we had a long-term exhibition request from a museum in New York. Exhibiting Aboriginal in a museum long-term needs months of negotiations on both sides, meetings with Government departments, lawyers especially copyright lawyers on both sides, permissions by the Aboriginal Elder and Community, etc. and a lot of money for flights and all the expenses. We definitely will keep you informed and you can subscribe to our newsletter by email to firstname.lastname@example.org subject: Newsletter Subscription.
Yes we ship worldwide, working with the market leaders in international Arts shipping, and we accept PayPal and most of the usual payment methods.
The “Emu Dreaming” is at the moment not for sale as it is intented to represent Australia around the world for example at European big International Art Shows and Biennales but for the right offer we may decide to sell this one-off life-size artwork.” *****
Janet, thank you for the short interview, we are sure visitors at the GALA on SUNDAY 30th JULY 2017 at 1.30pm will at the after-party ask you and your cousin Gavin Wanganeen heaps of questions to your family history, your different styles of paintings, and if there is planned to do the upcoming exhibition in Melbourne or the one or other in the future together.
Our best wishes to you and your cousin, we are looking forward seeing and hearing more of you both in the future.
